Congratulations to Priscilla Bell Lamberty on Receiving the 2023 Leeway Transformation Award!

Celebrating the Powerful Art and Taino Advocacy of Our Community Member

We are thrilled to announce that Priscilla Bell Lamberty, an artist, educator, and, cultural advocate in our community, has been awarded the prestigious 2023 Leeway Transformation Award. This honor recognizes artists who create impactful social change through their work. Priscilla's lifelong dedication to environmental justice, Indigenous/Caribbean visibility, and uplifting Black and Brown voices makes her a perfect candidate to continue this legacy. She writes:

"I am honored to be one of the 12 recipients of the 2023 Leeway Foundation Transformation Award, which highlights the power of art to fuel social change. The Leeway Foundation has granted $180,000 in unrestricted support to women, trans*, and gender nonconforming artists and cultural producers, and I’m grateful to be included in this incredible cohort. "

Born and raised in North Philadelphia, Priscilla’s art reflects her cultural heritage and personal experiences. With a BFA from Moore College of Art and Design and an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, her work spans painting, muralism, and community workshops. She has also taught Taíno-centered cultural workshops throughout the East Coast, founding the Philly Taino Cultural Workshop in 2014.

Her accolades include the Leeway Art & Change grant (2017), “Taino Storyteller of the Year” (2017), “Phenomenal Woman” (2020), and “Taino Muralist of the Year” (2020), among others. As a freelance muralist with Mural Arts and a painting instructor at Fleisher Art Memorial, Priscilla continues to enrich our cultural landscape.
